Newborn really is the survival stage. You have a beautiful new family member and a lot less sleep. Maybe your breast-feeding, or doing formula. Maybe they're sleeping in your room or their own room.
Here is a list of musts for your baby registry for the first six months. These items are from my personal experience/ trial and error for what has really worked for my family. Everything on this list I have personally used and been happy with.
These are great items to add to your registry. But this is not all you need, just some of the things that stand out to me to be extra helpful to add to your checklist .
MOMS ON CALL
I will say this through out my content. My number ONE recommendation is to buy the Moms on Call books. These books are very simple guides that will likely answer any questions you may have for a generally healthy baby. While every child is different, we followed the typical days schedules in the back of the book very closely and our baby girl was sleeping through the night at 4 weeks.
SLEEP
Canopy Bedside Humidifier
These are important especially in the winter months and when your child is sick. We have tested a few different humidifiers out, running into issues with puddles, too much moisture and bright lights. By far the best one is the Canopy Bedside Humidifier. It is on the more expensive side, but well worth it. Best part, you do not have to clean it out all the time or use distilled water!
Bassinet - SNOO
The price tag can be a bit shocking, so I don't think we would've even considered the SNOO if it wasn't handed down to us by a friend. After using it, we wouldn't blink to pay the full price for one. I couldn't image the first 3 months without the Snoo Bassinet by the Happiest Baby. These bassinets are smart cribs that safely sooth the baby when they wake up and cry. Of course sometimes they just need mommy or daddy to cuddle, but this helps put them back to sleep when it isn't feeding time.
You can buy the SNOO or now even rent directly from The Happiest Baby! As your baby grows, you will likely need to get another size swaddle.
White Noise Machine - Hatch Rest +
We have two white noise machines that have been great! One that plugs into the wall and stays in her room—Hatch Rest+— and one for one the go— the LectroFan Alpha Portable Sleep Sound Machine. There are two different versions of the hatch. I recommend spending the extra $30 to get the Rest +, it is more intuitive with Bluetooth on your phone. We bought the regular one first and ended up buying the Rest + after anyways.
FEEDING
Baby Brezza Formula Dispenser
If you are formula feeding this is not a necessity but is truly a life changer. And this is something that you will use for the whole first year. It makes the formula warmed at the right temperature ready to go in 8 seconds. Those middle of the night feedings are so much easier when all you have to do is put the bottle underneath and push a button.
Bottle Sterilizer
Breastmilk and formula can breed a lot of bacteria on bottles, if not cleaned properly. Well, you can put water in a pan, boil the pan and put the bottles, nipples and pinkies in the pot, but I highly recommend getting a sterilizer to save a lot of time. The one we have been super happy with has been the Papablic Baby Bottle Electric Steam Sterilizer and Dryer.
Hakka Silicon Breast Pump
There are a lot of different preferences for electric breast pumps. But if you plan to pump or breast-feed, I highly recommend also having on hand, a hakka pump (really 2) I was skeptical of a suction being able to pull milk, until the first time I used it and it caught a few ounces right away! These are especially good at nighttime feeds because you can breast-feed on one nipple and put the Hakka on the other.
STROLLER
Britax B-Free & B-Safe Gen2 Flexfit Travel System
I have loved this travel system! The stroller is a 360 spin, so super easy to navigate. The car seat pops right in and out of the stroller and seamlessly into the car seat base. We only needed the one car seat and bought three separate bases-- one for my car, my husband's truck, and my mother-in-law who picks my daughter up regularly from daycare. The carseat is easily adjustable as your newborn grows and last about til 1 year of age.
HEALTH
NozeBot by Dr. Noze Best
You have probably already been recommended the manual nose sucker by Frida Baby. This DOES work wonders, however I found myself always getting sick and yes, it is pretty gross at first. Highly recommend the NozeBot, especially if you will have a baby in daycare (sorry, they will be sick every other week the first year). The NozeBot is automatic, hospital grade, and significantly less traumatic for both you and your baby. You can also get more filters.
Electric Nail Trimmer by FANSIDI
Especially if you’re a first time parent, the idea of taking nail clippers to your infant’s tiny little fingers can be absolutely terrifying. This electric file was a lifesaver and you can test it on yourself super easily and see that it can’t hurt your little one.
HOLDERS
BabyBjörn Bouncer
There are a lot of baby holders out there, but the BabyBjörn Bouncer was one of my favorites because it was so light and easy to fold up. Plus I was able to keep my daughter in it for the whole first 6 months. It's also very convenient to use to dry your baby after the bath: You just lay the the towel over it and place your baby in the seat, wrapping the towel around them before you pick them up.
Toy Arch with Clamps
I have a few versions of these that are all great! I put them on the stroller, car seat, MommaRoo and the BabyBjörn Bouncer! The one linked above is my favorite for the BabyBjörn.
